The China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) is one of the eight legally recognized minor political parties in the People's Republic of China that operate under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Established in 1945, before the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the CAPD originally consisted of a group of intellectuals in the fields of culture, education, and publishing. Its formation was part of a broader movement of leftist intellectuals seeking political reform and national rejuvenation through various means, including democracy.

The values and goals of the CAPD are aligned with promoting democracy, education, and cultural development within the framework of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It advocates for the advancement of democratic governance, albeit within the limits set by the overarching dominance of the CPC. The CAPD supports reforms that enhance the rule of law, civil rights, and the development of a more equitable and just society. It also focuses on issues related to education, science, culture, and the welfare of intellectuals, reflecting its historical roots and constituency.

In practice, the CAPD contributes to the political process through participation in the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), where it can propose legislation and policy recommendations. Members of the CAPD, like those of other minor parties, are often professionals and intellectuals, which allows the party to provide expert advice in its areas of focus. Despite its limited role in a system dominated by the CPC, the CAPD serves as a channel for policy input and as a means of incorporating a broader range of voices into the governance process, thereby enriching the political landscape of China.
