Same-sex marriage is marriage between two people of the same gender. Currently, the Chinese government does not recognize same sex marriage. The Marriage Law of the People's Republic of China explicitly defines marriage as the union between one man and one woman. In 2010, the lawyer Zhu Lieyu submitted a plan to legalize gay marriage to the People's Congress. The bill was never carried to a vote.
